ETERNITY
Angel and Wesley discuss their means of escape from a dire situation, but they realise there is no way out and resign themselves to another hour of torture, as they watch Cordelia’s ghastly performance in A Doll’s House. After the play, they dodge her questions regarding quality. Cordelia spots Oliver Simon, the famous talent agent, coming out of a nightclub with Rebecca Lowell, a television actress. A car lurches out of the darkness and heads for Rebecca, but Angel dives across the street, pushing her to safety. Once she has recovered, Rebecca asks Angel if he makes a habit of saving people, and Cordelia tells her that it’s his purpose in life and hands her their card.
The following morning, Cordelia boasts that she made the front page of the newspaper. Her elbow is visible in a picture of Rebecca. Angel seems disappointed that his rescue wasn’t mentioned in the paper. Rebecca arrives and invites Angel to her house, saying that she is being stalked.
Rebecca throws a house party and once all the guests have left, she goes to check the lock on her door. Angel crashed through it, just in time to save her from an intruder already inside the house who makes his escape. Rebecca rushes to Angel as he climbs to his feet. Unfortunately, they are standing in front of a mirror and she sees that Angel doesn’t cast a reflection. Angel says he’s not what she thinks. Rebecca says she knows he’s a vampire and asks if he drinks blood. He says that he does but assures her he’s not a killer. Rebecca seems fascinated and unafraid.
Wesley tells Cordelia that Angel spent the night looking after Rebecca. She warns about Angel and the danger of him experiencing ‘true happiness’. She says she is going to check on Rebecca, her one and only link to stardom. Angel answers the door to find Cordelia wearing a large wooden cross around her neck. Angel does his best to curtail Cordy’s inquisitiveness explaining that Rebecca has gone out to lunch. He admits to revealing his secret to the actress. Rebecca meets Oliver, where he informs her that she must read for the part in a new series. Rebecca is indignant that a star of her calibre should have to read for a part.
Back home, Rebecca works out while complaining to Angel about the indignity of this. The housekeeper brings a suit, which Rebecca hands over to Angel, explaining she has a premiere to attend and can’t go without her bodyguard. At the premiere, a man in a tux and carrying a gun follows them. Angel and Rebecca exit through the back of the theatre. Angel hears something above them and sees the man about to shoot Rebecca. He shoves her aside then attacks the stranger. While the police take Angel’s statement, Rebecca tells Oliver their attacker is a stuntman and she knows Oliver set it all up. Oliver confesses, assuring her that he’d never have allowed her to get hurt. As he tells her that no one stays young for ever, Rebecca looks at Angel.
Cordelia and Rebecca spend a day shopping together and Rebecca pumps Cordy for information about Angel. Later that evening Rebecca shows up at Angel’s apartment with a bottle of Dom Perignon and makes herself comfortable. Angel pours two glasses of the champagne them the two link arms and drink. Rebecca spills her drink on Angel’s shirt, but when he goes to change, she puts a drug in his drink.
Cordelia tells Wesley that she made a mistake by giving Rebecca information about Angel, including the details on how one becomes a vampire. Angel tells Rebecca that he hurt a lot of people, hence his quest for atonement. Rebecca notes that he deserves some happiness. She offers herself, telling him to make her a vampire. Angel begins to get angry, telling her she has no idea what she’s asking. Angel drags her to the kitchen where he open the fridge and sprays blood into her mouth. Then he realises he’s been drugged. Rebecca says she just wanted him to relax and be happy. Angel says that he is perfectly happy and bites her shoulder before becoming Angelus.
He tells Rebecca that he’s never killed a famous person before. She accuses him of trying to scare her and says it’s not working. She tries to escape but he blocks her way, promising to torture her for hours so she can determine if she wants that type of lifestyle. Rebecca struggles to her feet and says she’s through running. She hits Angelus with a candlestick and runs to the elevator. Wesley and Cordelia meet her in the office where Cordelia accuses her of sleeping with Angel. Rebecca admits she gave him Doximall, a tranquilliser that induces bliss. Wesley explains that it’s not true happiness and suggests they vacate the premises until the effects wear off.
The lights go out and Wesley tells Angel what he’s experiencing is a chemical suggestion. Angel tells Wesley that his name is Angelus, knocking him out. He then taunts Cordelia, imitating her acting style. Cordelia grabs a bottle filled with water. She tells him it’s holy water, blessed by the local priest. Angelus says she’s bluffing. Cordy tells him she’s prepared herself for this every single day. She throws the water on him and he recoils. Wesley takes advantage of the distraction, knocking Angelus into the elevator shaft.
Angel finds himself chained to his bed. Cordelia wonders if he’s still evil. Angel asks about Rebecca who, Cordy informs him, won’t be retaining him as a bodyguard. Wesley says it’s best to put it all behind them. Angel tries to tell Cordelia that he didn’t mean what he said about her acting, but she cuts him off saying it would be best if he didn’t try to weasel out. At least Angelus was honest. Angel meekly calls after her and Wesley, but there is no response.
