She pulls off the blindfold, revealing a terrified gypsy girl, wishing him happy birthday.
Angel shoves Marquez into his office, warning him that if he doesn’t do what’s right, Angel won’t be there to save him next time. Cordelia tells Wesley the boy isn’t going to do his civic duty. Wesley says he has faith in Angel’s ability to convince him otherwise. At a nightclub, Faith is dancing. She provokes an argument with a woman and punches her face, the fight escalating into a brawl. Faith continues to dance.
The next morning in court, Lindsey McDonald is denying that Wolfram & Hart tampers with witnesses and demands a dismissal of the charges against his client as Marquez and Angel enter the courtroom. Back at the firm, Lindsey is on the phone with his superior, admitting he is responsible for underestimating Angel. He agrees that Angel has been a costly liability to the firm. He hatches a plan along with colleagues Lee Mercer and Lilah Morgan to hire a rogue slayer. Lee and Lilah argue over who will contact Faith, and both go to get her.
At the Wolfram & Hart offices, Lindsey tells Faith that there’s an outstanding arrest warrant for her in Sunnydale and that if she works for them, they can get her off the murder charge. When Faith asks who it is she’s to kill, Lindsey tells her Angel. Faith instantly agrees.
1898: Darla finds Angelus cowering. She asks if he’s playing a game. He laments that for 140 years they’ve been killing and their victims are all dead. Darla demands to know what’s happened. Angel tells her the gypsy girl’s people did something to him. He can remember every person he’s killed and begs her to help him. Darla realises that they’ve given him a soul and in disgust attacks him, telling him to get out. Angrily she drives the tormented Angel into the street.
Wesley wonders what ramifications they can expect from Wolfram & Hart. Angel, Wesley and Cordelia are on their way to meet a new client when Faith arrives armed with a crossbow. Faith fires but Angel catches the bolt. Faith laughs and tells them this is going to be fun. Angel talks to Giles on the phone. Wesley is upset that Giles didn’t inform him that Faith had come out of her coma. He was after all, her Watcher. Cordelia asks what she can do and Angel tells them both to not make themselves a target. Wesley argues they need to band together and reminds Angel that Faith is not a demon, but a very sick girl.
Later Angel finds Faith in the office. He says he’s glad she stopped by. Faith pulls a gun, telling Angel she’ll give him one chance to kill her, and tosses it to him. Angel fires, but the gun is loaded with blanks. Angel gives the gun back and asks Faith if she’s considered that he might enjoy killing her. She wonders if that would be a moment of true happiness. She says if he doesn’t kill her, she will kill him. She fires the gun but this time the bullet is real. Faith tells a wounded Angel that the games have begun and jumps through the window.
Angel walks into the Wolfram & Hart office building. Making his way to Lindsey’s office, Angel goes through his desk. Lindsey walks in and Angel asks him where Faith is. Lindsey warns Angel that they have a highly sophisticated security system and that he’d like to stick around, but he has a dinner appointment. Amused, Angel tells Lindsey they’ll meet again. Wesley and Cordelia try to enter her apartment, but Phantom Dennis slams the door shut. Once inside they discover that it wasn’t Wesley that Dennis was worried about, but rather Faith.
1898: Angelus roams the streets. Seeing a group he tells them he’s hungry and one of the men tosses him a coin. A woman screams that he’s a monster and the men drag him into an alleyway. Angelus emerges and attacks the woman but is unable to kill her.
